Overview: What is Investment Casting?
Investment casting, also called lost wax casting, is a type of metal casting process. In this casting process, a wax pattern is made first and coated with a refractory material to make the mold surface. Then molted metal is poured inside and the wax is melted away. “Investment” means “to cover completely” which refers to the coating of the refractory material around the wax pattern. This is a precision casting process. Using this we can make castings of high accuracy with intricate details.
